Justin’s Background
Before Justin worked in data or taught at some of the top universities in the US, his original path to success was to be a professional race car driver. From the age of 5, Justin spent years on the road from Pennsylvania, to Florida to Oklahoma, chasing his dream of making it to NASCAR. Over the years the future of that opportunity faded and Justin became introduced to the field of data and analytics at Shippensburg University. While at Shippensburg, Justin would get his first exposure to the corporate world by working in Supply Chain for Target. After graduation, Justin would take his entrepreneurial spirit (ask him about HelpJustInTime and ShipTank) and move to Minneapolis to work for Target and pursue his Master’s in Predictive Analytics at Northwestern University.
Over the next few years, Justin would build a vast background in the retail space by working in roles in Supply Chain, Finance and Pricing, as well as finishing his degree at Northwestern. After graduating, Justin decided to use his degree to pivot deeper into the data and analytics space, where he went to work at Cleartelligence to help them build their Advanced Analytics practice. During his time at Cleartelligence, he was promoted multiple times and helped the firm reach new clients and engage on new types of projects. Justin would lead engagements at companies such as National Grid, Vertex Pharmaceutical, Harvard Business Publishing, and Global Partners where he helped those organizations on data automation, predictive analytics and data product design. Not only was Justin working at Cleartelligence, but he started lecturing at Boston University in the Analytics program. Justin’s endeavors in the academic space has lead him to a consistent adjunct role at Northeastern University and designing courses for multiple universities in the analytics space.
After moving on from Cleartelligence, Justin moved on to work in the startup environment to help companies build better data products and enable teams to use that data better. This would see Justin lead the data and visualization team at Toast (pre IPO), data science team at Reptrak and data and enablement at Coravin. Today, Justin is currently at Suffolk Construction, where he is leading the analytics function. In just over a year, Justin’s teams work has been mentioned on multiple media outlets and continues to help shape how data is used in the construction industry.
Even though Justin’s hobbies have slowed down a bit, he still enjoys his day to day helping teams use and leverage data. If Justin isn’t doing something data related, he is probably watching a Duke basketball game, taking a walk with his wife, Kayla and dog, Luna, or trying out different espressos in the Boston Area.
